When We Say Black Lives Matter is part affirmation and part lullaby. It is written to Black children, giving them meaning to the words Black Lives Matter and all the ways it can be expressed. We can smile it to raise our spirits. We can scream it to demand enough is enough. We can call it out to welcome others to join.
I am joyful that books like this exist for children, including my own. The words Black Lives Matter have been so distorted in the media and current culture that it can be difficult to define them. This book shares Black Lives Matter’s convictions. It depicts all the hidden and deep multilayer meanings. It fully encapsulates its essence. And, that’s why it’s extraordinary.
