Finding Om

Finding OM is the perfect introduction to meditation for children. The story is about a young girl named Anu. She is based on the author’s, who is a yoga educator and MD, oldest daughter.  Anu hears her Appuppa (maternal grandfather in the Malayalam language of India) saying OM and wonders what it means. He explains the meaning and power behind it. Anu spends time practicing meditation. It’s difficult at first to get all the thoughts out of her mind but she slowly starts to become present in the moment and feels at peace. I can’t decide what I love the most about this book: the gentle way that meditation is explained, how the reader is able to relate to Anu’s progression with meditation, the infusion of Indian American culture, or the vibrant illustrations that fill your own heart with peace.
