Nurse Kenji Rules!

This early reader is part of the Katie Woo’s Neighborhood series. This is a cute series that introduces a new neighbor in each book. I especially like them because they feature a diverse range of people in jobs that are not considered the norm for their race and gender. In this book, Katie and her family are helping their neighbor Mr. Kenji studying for his final nursing test. They help by letting Mr. Kenji practice taking their temperature and listening to their heart. Her family eases his nervousness and he ends up doing great on his test. This book is written with the early reader in mind and is still able to introduce children to the nursing profession (which is extra cool, because that is what my main career has been for the last decade). The back of the book has a glossary of nursing-related terms and an interview about the nursing field between Katie and Nr. Kenji.
