In the Sky at Nighttime is the perfect book to read to your children before tucking them into bed. It gives the feel of a lullaby and further captures you with the illustrations. This #ownvoices book takes you on a journey through the Arctic tundra. After exploring the Northern Lights it leaves you in the comfort of a village and in the embrace of a mother rocking her baby to sleep. The lullaby/nighttime motif is furthered by the stars pictured throughout the book on the window curtain and the baby’s blanket. I can’t tell what I enjoy more: it’s soothing poetic words or gorgeous illustrations. They pair together brilliantly. Each page is full of rich colors; like the deep purples of the sky, and emerald greens and pinks of the Northern Lights. I also love how the characters pictured are authentic to the area they come from. Despite the arctic imagery, this book leaves you with a feeling of warmth.
To pair with the book we made our own Northern Lights with soft pastels!
