I believe that every child (from a young age) should be raised and taught the values of respect, tolerance and empathy to show not only others but also to our only living planet.
What better way to model inclusiveness than to show our own children that we value and celebrate differences through the books that we read, the voices that we choose to listen to.
Often, the responses include statements such as “It doesn’t matter what people look like,” “We’re all the same on the inside,” and “God loves everyone.” These are well-intended statements, but unfortunately, they don’t convey any practical messages to children about race or culture. To be effective, conversations have to be direct, explicit, and continuous across time."
Trust your gut and know your family's priorities, and commit to not making someone else's priorities your priorities. No one is doing it all, so decide what is important to your family, and set boundaries around that.
